If you haven't had the pleasure of biting into a Sprinkle's cupcake, you have yet to experience pure bliss. The first time I tried the red velvet, I thought I was in Heaven. The black and white is also one of my favorites. I am dying to try the lemon cupcake, but it's only available on Mondays, Thursdays, and Sundays. Hmmm, I think I need to work that into my schedule.
From October 1-October 7, Sprinkle's will donate the proceeds from its strawberry cupcakes to the Entertainment Industry Foundation's Women's Cancer Research Fund. For that week, the strawberry cupcake will be offered everyday. So eat a cupcake and help find a cure to cancer! Click on the title link for a list of flavors and the days they are available.

Tacos, Stilettos, and Stripper Poles
I recently had a conversation with an associate regarding the best chicken tacos in Los Angeles. We both agreed that the winner was Starz Gentlemen's Club in Gardena. You can't beat it. Great food, great drinks, great music, and great entertainment. If you come before 6pm, entry is free. Food and drinks are half priced before 6pm, as well. Don't forget to tip! The girls are working hard for the $. And if you're there for an extra special treat, head on upstairs for the nude showroom and/or a few lap dances. My Sofitel Hotel...
'Life is magnifique' when my weekend plans consist of the Sofitel's Stone Rose lounge for afternoon cocktails, dinner and cotton candy for dessert at Simon LA, and a plush suite with 800 thread-count sheets. Aaah. Then there's morning room service, a 4 hour reservation at Le Spa that pampers you in 5000 square feet of tranquil bliss, and then I sashay off to the bar terrace night-life to meet friends.
Sounds exciting doesn't it? Many of their reservation packages include a buffet breakfast, and discounts for 2 week advance reservations. Do the right thing, pack your overnight (and hers) and getaway...even if it's still in the same city.

Alicia Keys Concert, Friday, 9/26/8
Some of us can't get enough of Alicia Keys, and she's still touring. This last album, "As I Am," is classic Alicia. 'Teenage Love Affair' has grown on me, and I'm still playing 'Wreckless Love.' And, I'm still re-capping about her performance at the BET awards... loved the tribute to the girl groups SWV, En Vogue, and TLC (T-boz/Chili-I'm pissed at you guys for those outfits!). You have a chance to see her live in concert this Friday night @ the Santa Barbara Bowl at 7pm. Click the title link for tickets. Disneylands' Birthday Gift to you...or the kids!
Ok, so since when have you laced up your sneakers and gone to Disneyland? I know, ages for me too. (Um, maybe because an admission ticket is like $60 bucks, sheesh.) Starting in 2009, you can receive free admission to Disneyland on your birthday. I think this is super cool for the kids, and one less admission you have to pay for the fam is always great in my book. Woopty-doo you say? Do I need to remind you of the classic rides; Indiana Jones, Space Mountain, Splash Mountain, Haunted Mansion, oooh and the Pirates of the Caribbean, classic! I really wish Captain EO was still there, I felt so alive after that show, lol!

Truxton's...a modern day Cheers
I got an email yesterday from a friend asking for a happy hour near LAX, couldn't think of one..but there is Truxton's on Truxton/Manchester near LAX. Been going here for a couple years, and the atmosphere is what I love most. It really does feel like Cheers, everyone knows your name. (Or maybe just mine, since I frequent the bar, so what!) The have a seasonal menu with choices for the healthy and options for us sinful food lovers. They've got this cajun pasta, fire-cracker chicken skewers, and hand rolled slow-roasted brisket taquitos that I always over do it with. Check it out. They usually have the football lovers on Sundays during brunch time, enjoy!

For My Sweet tooth...and my Sweetie
I've been on a decade long crusade for a 24 hour bakery in my area (I'm talking a real bakery, not grocery store). I can't help it people, I looove my sweets. And, I must have dessert after each meal, (even if its just a Snickers)....just in case you wanted to know that. Harriet's Cheesecake on Centinela Ave. in Inglewood, is putting grandma's baked goods and Cheesecake Factory cheesecakes to shame. I'm talking german chocolate cheesecake, banana pudding cheesecake, Oreo cheesecake (my fav, of course), and even sweet potato cheesecake. No dine in at all, just get your cheesecake and go. It's a couple doors down from the Phillips BBQ, in this mini strip center that needs to do something about that parking pronto! But, just call ahead to make sure your flavor hasn't been sold out, and bring around 6$ bucks per slice. Click the title link for a map only. Like always, you can thank me later.

...those BISCUITS!!!
Ok, so I assume you know by now that I am not the healthiest eater around town. (Veggie people just skip on down to Tender Greens and leave me alone!) I am definitely a food enthusiast, so if I say it's worth trying...you've got my word. OMGosh, not sure if you've been able to try Honey Kettle yet, but their chicken is unbelievable. This is the head honcho of the fried chicken spots. I usually get the chicken strip meal with fries, a side, annnnd those biscuits. I can't even compare those biscuits to anything but waking up to the smell of breakfast cooking in the morning. LOL. The food is made by order, so it can take about 15 minutes- but oh it is worth it! This place is tucked away in Culver City in their new booming resturant row on Washington Blvd. Parking sucks, but just park in the lot behind the BofA. And, as I'm writing, I just figured out my lunch plans for the day. Oh, this place was also just featured as one of the best restuarants in L.A. under $25 bucks. Need I say more? If they start delivering, I'm joining a gym pronto.

Meet Me For Happy Hour
In our quest for the ultimate happy hour, I have found a restaurant/bar that has got my attention. The Parlor in Santa Monica has over 50 LCD and Plasma TV's to give you the best view anywhere in the house. I'm impressed with happy hour being everyday from 4PM-8PM, unlike most happy hours that end at 7PM. The Parlor boasts $3 beers, $4 well drinks, and $5 house wines. Food is served until midnight. Dining in the friggin' Dark? Uh Ah...
Got a blind date? (LOL) Or, got a date that is not a looker? Well, somehow this trend originating from those lovable Germans has crept into the L.A. nightlife, literally. No in depth explanation necessary I guess, because this restaurant is in the dark. You order food, eat, and sip wine all in the dark. Somehow this would seem mentally exhausting, but Opaque disguises this experience as a journey of taste. It's sandwiched in a back room at the V Lounge on Wilshire in Santa Monica. Me? I like to see what I'm eating, no matter what. But, this has tickled my fancy.

2008 Angel City Classic - the L.A. Battle of the Bands!!
~~~~~~~~~~~~I have southern roots, but never experienced a true Battle of the Bands experience...and I'm pumped that since 2006, L.A. has decided to embrace the event which is a historical Black College/University tradition. Morehouse College will meet in Los Angeles @ the Coliseum to attempt to de-throne Prairie A&M University in a weekend long extravanza of events. The classic football game and the battle of the bands begins on Saturday, September 27th, with a High School band showcase (L.A. schools, finally), King and Queen pageants, BMW Coupe giveaway (white, black interior please :), and a post game mini concert (sheesh concert mania) featuring Anthony Hamilton, Lalah Hathaway and Angie Stone! OMG, if I were you, I'd gather the fam, pick a team and head down there early. Get your tickets first, of course, because last years 50,000 attendees (lots of B-list celebs) will be back, believe that. Ya boy, Nick Cannon is a spokesperson (duh? Drumline)...and he urges us all to Stop Hating. *sigh* His movement is positive though, (and annoying). PS- Entrepreneurs, there are still vendor spots open...if you're about your business you need to get on that.
Love ya, Candice
Free Raphael Saadiq Concert! Yep, Free!
It's been concert mania lately...but I just had to share this free one. Myspace (of course) and KJLH 102.3 fm (hi Dad:) presents Raphael Saadiq live on stage at the Hollywood & Highland center this Friday, Sept 19th. Good luck on parking people...but I say it's worth it, this man's musical talent reaches back to Tony! Toni! Tone!, to Lucy Pearl and his solo neo soul music movement, not to mention that his collabo list is a mile long. This guy is connected- you never know who else you might see perform.
This is a first come first served event, and apparently a family show since all ages are welcome, (but I'm sure that does not include toddlers, get a babysitter, please). *click on the title link or pic for more info, if you don't believe me!*
Damita Jo and the Little Tour that could...
I think Janet is the only Jackson that hasn't aged (that badly). I credit JD, a little love in your life delays wrinkles, (I made that up.) And, she's at it again, opening her "Rock Witchu" tour, in Vancouver, Canada on the 10th, to proceed her 10th album "Discipline." Haven't heard too much hype about it, besides the blogger world complaining about this 'fit. But, come on people, you know this is how the Jackson's get down. I do agree that everyone must at least see a Janet concert once in their lifetime. Whether you go with your boo or with your granny, you're in for a treat (she's got 36 hits!). And you're in luck, click the title link for tickets. Next show is this Wednesday night @Staples Center. Surprisingly (or not surprisingly), there are still good seats left...
The Hills Pays The Bills
22-year old Lauren Conrad from MTV's reality show "The Hills" just got a three-book series deal with Harper Collins. The series, loosely based on her life, will be titled "L.A. Candy" (♥ the name). LC has her own clothing line, her face is everywhere, she has a book deal...What next? She is such a little entrepreneur. Love her!! Look for the first book of the series in summer 2009.
Now as for LC's arch nemesis, Heidi Montag, whose quick run in the music biz was an absolute disaster (I bet many of you have never even heard Heidi's pathetic love song dedicated to manager/fiance Spencer Pratt), has a deal in the works with Mattel to transform her into yes, that's right, a Barbie doll. And of course, Spencer is jumping on board to become Ken. Arg!! Speidi is going to ruin the good wholesome name of Barbie! Her fake boobs, bleached hair, lip injected, botoxed face should not be on a Barbie doll! What is this teaching our children?!~Exhale~ But I'm not a hater. The ex-BFF's both have big things poppin'. Ride that "Hills" bus 'til the wheels fall off. ♥ Kan
Keep The Faith...or die tryin'
Well...Well...Well. This tale is long overdue. Not sure if you read any of the excerpts, but from what I gather...Faith was just a pawn in Tupac's game. A game that she willingly played since husband Biggie was publicly out with other women. She played stupid and got caught up...and it's really too late to place the blame on anyone but herself. Every woman knows to stay away from her man's frienemies. I'm wondering if her current boo was alright with this tell-all. I'm interested, rags to riches are always the best stories. How convenient though...I believe the Notorious B.I.G. movie is in production.
If you're a fan, there's a book signing/discussion (books only people) at Barnes and Noble at the Grove, Los Angeles, Wednesday, September 10th @ 7:30pm.
MTV VMA's 2008:Who Showed Out?
Gotta love the Hollywood award shows, when all else fails (*cough* Russell) there is always fashion. My girl Rih-Rih is on fire. I'm loving her stylist...love the white platforms and the gray hair streak, although a bit plain for her. It seems as if this gray/platinum phase is back, think Puff Daddy and the late '90's. She's just so sexy lately...Christina looked really sexy-witchy-mature in this spider web design... a silhouette and lots of texture with this dress. Loved it. Um, nice try Pink. It didn't move me, she stood out-but didn't show out. Loved her effort in her performance, though. And Katy, bold move... don't know if she really had the body type for this thrift store choice, and her cross-legged pose made me feel like she was a bit insecure to pull this off.
Did anyone notice the cheap shots between Russell and Jordin Sparks? What was that all about? I need to re-play that again...
Call Me Greedy, Katana
OK, so I know just about everyone in L.A. has been to Katana, but I just woke up thinking about the fillet mignon wrapped asparagus. The contrast of the tender juicy fillet with the slight crunch of the lemon-drizzled asparagus just melts in your mouth. Yum. And the raspberry lemon drop martinis are incredible. I'm an ambiance girl, and I absolutely love the vibe there, no matter how crowded it is. If you're starved and you just can't wait for a table, they have the full menu available at the bar and at the many couch/table areas in the front. Hmmm...I think I need to hit Katana up this week.
The T-pain Show...I mean, The BMI Awards
I love when someone is praised for their accomplishments, but I thought this years' BMI Urban Awards in Beverly Hills last night was a tribute to the Jackson 5, not T-Pain. T-Pain, who donned a yellow vest and top hat, lived on the stage, he opened the show with Rick Ross, he closed the show with face painted dancers. He received about 50 awards...Sheesh. I wasn't expecting a T-Pain concert. But I won't complain. I was entertained. Janet Jackson, who looked smashing, presented the honorary award to The Jackson 4 (where was Michael?), who got about 5 minutes of the lime light. What a tribute.... America's Best Dance Crew's Season 1 winners The Jabbawockeez performed!! I love them! Keri Hilson has such a beautiful voice and is so adorable, but what was that fringed bustiere all about? Yuck! Yung Berg, Soulja Boy, and Ray J performed at the pre-show, hosted by Mr. Bentley. Mario, Lloyd, JoJo, and a few others performed during the awards show. I was looking for Lil' Wayne, but he was a no-show. So guess who's the dj at the after party at Ritual in Hollywood? That's right, T-Pain! Lol, he was everywhere.
My beef of the night: Just because Hennessy is one of the sponsors of the awards does not mean that the open bar should be all Hennessy! Can we get a little variety please?
Ummba (you call that service??) Grill
So...ok. I decide to meet at Ummba Grill, Century City, my suggestion of course. I really believe I was blinded by the lounge couches, plant decor and outside bar. I was sooo pumped about the happy hour, so I skip across the street after work. I find a happy seat at the bar and asked for a Happy Hour menu. No such thing. Wha? Well...what are the happy hour specials? I was told to hold on a second. Ok...I took a deep breath. Maybe I'm too eager, I thought...(but since when is inquiring about an order frowned upon at a restaurant??) So, he made about a million drinks while I was waiting. Once I became priority, I inquired about the happy hour specials again...after all I only have until 7! As this is a Brazilian restaurant, you'd think I would get an intro, a suggestion...and opinion..something. Instead, he mumbles a couple items under his breath and claims that there is other stuff. Stuff? I'm irritated at this point...so I make the best of it. I order a stinkin' mojito. Maybe that'll change my mood. Did I say extreme pulp? I mean who makes a drink like that? Hey Ummba people...if you want to keep sassy customers like myself...(too bad you already lost me)....I suggest you brush up on the menu, learn how to make a strong drink...and hire more help. There's lots of people dying for minimum wage....smh.
Nevertheless, the live Brazilian Band on Sundays is a great cheap date.
Nice Try Repub's, Obama is Un-Moved
Not sure if you fine folks were able to catch the Republicans' futile attempts to personally attack Obama and the American people for supporting him. I have to admit, after hearing the news about McCain choosing a woman as his running mate, I thought to myself that this was a strategic move that also had huge potential to backfire. And that it did. Giuliani spent so much time lashing Obama that it appeared to be more of a jealous spirit that caused the rant. And, Palin...OMG. Did they have a rehearsal or anything? I'm all for a real American family struggle story...but this was comedy. You've got her prego 17 year old daughter, with the obviously annoyed baby daddy, and the youngest red head that insisted on licking her palms to correct the stubborn cowlick of her down-syndrome baby brother - while on camera. Who can take this woman seriously? Especially when McCain can barely lift his arms to wave...can she carry us through? Doubtful.
On a lighter note...Obama is still working towards the goal Los Angelinos.
Monique ...and the Annoying Big Woman Struggle
So...Monique has made her way back into my life on 93.5fm KDAY or the Beat...or whatever. It's not her success that annoys me ...its the big girl diaries that she shares. Let's be honest, no one overweight is ever happy or should be proud of it. Lol. Harsh I know, but she gets away with calling skinny women evil, and do we complain? Every star needs their gimmick, their niche, their thing. But, after you make it....just get your stomach stapled. Thanks mediatakeout.com. $Candice Williams
Tokyo Table
6pm Friday after work, racing to make happy hour. Missed a free parking spot by 2 seconds and swung around to the $4.50 parking. Not that bad I guess for La Cienega parking, but nothing is better than parking for free. I think the best part of this place is the swanky nooks and sections. The bar area is sectioned off from the restaurant dining, which was unexpectedly decorated, I wished I had sat in there. I love a restaurant I can be incognito in…but on restaurant row…that’s rare. So we opted for a bar seat, because I insisted that I needed a true feeling of this place. Even though this was Japanese casual dining, I wouldn't have felt overdressed in my little black dress. We chose martini’s and spicy tuna rolls quickly. I’d say they were average, but I’m not really a spicy tuna gal. And I swear in less than 2 minutes, we had our requests. I love that. Joi, the bartender was pleasant and a pro. Before I knew it, this place was packed with light chatter. That is until the birthday song, (um both versions) started…and the entire bar cheered for the birthday girl. It was a sweet, after work spot before the main spot. We ordered the shrimp tempura and another round of course, excellent. Time well spent, for sure. Especially since the bill was only like 20 bucks! Total shock. It's crazy though, when you spend less moola...for some reason you go somewhere else and spend more moola. Us Los Angelinos are never satisfied. We made our way out, and I think said bye to at least 10 workers. Lol. Sheesh, they were friendly. It was only 8:30pm now and I felt energized to conquer the world…or at least another drink. So we did….ha!
...until the next episode
