LoveLace, A Rock Opera, tells Linda's story...

In 1972, Deep Throat made its debut, becoming the first main stream pornographic movie. The country’s elite, from Jackie Kennedy to Johnny Carson flocked to theaters to see this history making film. Its star, Linda Lovelace became a sensation. By all accounts, at the time, she was on top of the world. A sexually liberated woman taking full advantage of the sexual revolution. But, just a few years later, she was telling a different story. One of abuse and imprisonment at the hands of her husband Chuck Traynor. She was embraced by the feminist movement and its anti-porn crusade, becoming one of their premier spokeswomen, even going on to speak numerous times in front of the U.S Senate.

BOA...Kobe Beef Corn Dog?...Yum

This 4-Star Steakhouse has 3 locations for your convenience: 101 Santa Monica Blvd in Santa Monica, 8462 Sunset Blvd at The Grafton Hotel in West Hollywood, and if you're ever in Vegas, there's one in Caesar's. I'm all about avoiding the Hollywood scene these days, so I'm sticking to the Santa Monica locale from now on. Traffic and parking are much less of a hassle, and the SaMo location has an expanded menu! I've been eyeing the kobe beef corn dog and the jumbo prawns. Love, love, love the vibrant decor and super sexy lighting! Make sure you bring a wad of cash or your Black Card. It's a bit pricey, but definitely worth every penny. So I stumbled upon Holly's West, located at 2460 Wilshire Blvd in Santa Monica. I was quite impressed with the Venetian-style lounge furniture with red velvet upholstery and super-low cocktail tables. Not to mention the ahi tuna tartare, crab cakes and the mini-burgers. Holly’s West has succeeded in bringing the class and sophistication of any of L.A.’s hottest spots west of the 405. So if you want a taste of Sunset Boulevard but don’t feel like heading north of Wilshire, head over to Holly's West. The full bar features an extensive affordable wine list priced from around $25 per bottle. Save the valet charge! There's usually easy to find parking along Wilshire, which is free after 6pm. I'm not sure exactly what you are looking or M*, but this is MY personal favorite hair stylist. I have been going to Asia Phillips for quite some years now. She is great at styling, weaving, color, anything you need. She is great at any texture or length of hair. She's colored my hair blonde(ish), plum, and auburn, just to name a few...If you are interested in a weave/extensions, she is absolutely THE best. Her styling is impeccable. The New Fox Hills Mall...a Grove Inspired Renovation

Gosh, finally. The former Fox Hills Mall, Culver City (where the 405 meets the 90 fwy) has been going downhill for years, all while having a revolving door of small name shops. After Robinsons-May decided to exit, (no worries, never shopped there anyway), I started to wonder if anyone would re-vamp this area full of potential and wealth. Seems like the Westfield Group has caught hold and has shelled out a breezy $75 million to bring all of our shopping and dining dreams to life at the Westfield Fox Hills Shopping Center. Where do I put my requests in? I need a Wokano, Benihana, aaaand a Chipotle. I can use a quaint H&M, Urban Outfitters, BCBG and shoes, shoes, and more shoe shops, please! I even hear talks of a new Target anchor somewhere in these plans...let's hope they change that. I am just fine with the Target down the way on Sepulveda/Jefferson...even though that parking lot is terrible.

Signs of Our Times, a Historical L.A. Exhibit

The Studio for Southern California History, a nonprofit organization located at 525 Alpine Street Suite 103 in Chinatown, will showcase Signs of Our Times September 13, 2008 - August 1, 2009 from 6:00 PM - 10:00 PM; The opening reception is 6 - 10 pm. The Studio’s hours are Wednesday through Sunday noon to 8:00 pm. This FREE exhibit explores changes in Southern California including transformations in the landscape, pivotal legislation & awe-inspiring events. Haunted Harvest Storytelling Festival

On October 28th from 3:00 PM-8:00 PM, We Tell Stories, LA’s multi-ethnic children’s storytelling theatre company, presents The 3rd Annual Haunted Harvest Storytelling Festival at the Old LA Farmer’s Market in Highland Park located at Avenue 58 and Figueroa Avenue. We Tell Stories will perform three 30-minute story-plays. The Alley Cats, America’s Premier Doo-Wop Group, will perform two 30-minute shows. The Alley Cats perform in schools and venues throughout the country, and often open for Jay Leno. Also featured are famed stilt walkers, Gumplestiltskin, who have performed in festivals all over Southern California. Library Bar, Have an Intelligent Cocktail

Well-versed intellectuals and chic-minded professionals seek a night spot where they can unwind from a busy day on the plush leather sectionals while psychic bartenders hand craft the perfect martini (ok, or whatever your drink is...). They find themselves at the Library Bar on 6th Street in L.A., or at one of the many sister bars; The Chalet, 4100 Bar or The Sapphire in Studio City. Hate to spill the beans, but I have yet to see any of these folks peruse the library bookshelves, hence the name of this joint adjacent to the Downtown L.A. Library. My personal fav is the fireplace and the cottage atmosphere. And, after a couple of cocktails and a swift walk, you can end up at the Standard Hotel for the night. Point is, get out of Hollywood already people. It's killing me. *tootles*

The X Bar, located inside the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza is oh so sexy and sophisticato. I think I'll be there next week. Their food looks super scrumptious and the martini list is quite impressive. Wine and Cheese, Please

CasaVino is a wine bar and restaurant featuring wine, art, music and food. They carry boutique wines and beers from around the world that can't be found everywhere else. The walls are full of colorful artwork created by local artists. The salads, pizza, tapas and cheese flights are said to be quite delicious. CasoVino has wine tastings every Wednesday and live jazz every 1st Friday of the month. They are located at 51 S. Pine Ave in Long Beach and are open for business Tuesday through Sunday from 5pm-2am. Eat Green at Akasha

This eco-friendly restaurant is becoming the hottest spot in Culver City. Getting a reservation on the weekend can be a bit challenging, but feel free to give it a go. Owner Akasha Richond, former chef to Barbra Streisand, doesn't half step it when it comes to organic and artsy food, wine and decor. The waiters even wear organic-cotton Levis and some of the furniture is made of hemp. The patio seating on Culver is breathtaking and the bar offers 30 wines by the glass, and serves the full menu. The wine list, which features artisan boutique wines from small estates, focuses on organic and biodynamic producers. House cocktails contain fresh juices and organic spirits like Juniper organic gin and small batch tequila. There's also a bakery counter and an area where you can purchase coffee and organic teas as well as organic baked goods including lemon bars, apple tart, carrot cake and cupcakes. Mary J. Blige Concert!

'...I know that we been here befoooore, the candlelight and you, walking softly through my door, come on in my sweet, how have you been???'........'if you look in my life and see what I've seen'... can you tell that I am pumped about this concert? Mary J. Blige is a legend in her own right, with releasing around 10 albums all sharing her lifes' wounds and growing pains. From her start on the track "I'll Do For You" with Father MC, she has emerged into a diva force- full of fashion and more fashion with that unbelievable voice. I don't always agree with her white boots, (lol), but she commits. What more can you ask for? Not sure if you've had a chance to see Mary live...OMG...she parties on stage! She will be live in concert at the Universal Amphitheater on Sunday, October 19th. You never know who might show up, don't miss out! I love her sound, I want to just run off all the classics. Le Skintique, Inglewood's Hidden Treasure

I must admit, I was a bit skeptical at first, even as I got off the elevator. I was referred to this full service salon by an associate, and boy was I impressed. The staff was extremely professional, informative, and friendly. I was immediately greeted with smiles and a tour of the salon by marketing director, Dawn. Le Skintique is not only home to skin specialist Regina, who by the way has the most phenomenal skin EVER, but has hair stylists, a nail technician, and a massage therapist. There's also a boutique where you're sure to find a jazzy outfit for mom or a cute pair of earrings and a funky bag for yourself, all handmade by fashion designer Barbara Cole. Regina then blew me away with the most detail-oriented and thorough, yet relaxing, facial I've ever had. It was absolutely amazing.

This vibrant space full of oranges, named after a rare tropical fish (duh!), is set in an office building on Maple Drive in Beverly Hills. Don't worry about the hills, it's a modest older crowd, even with business friendly guests. Try the herb-crusted Halibut, mmmmm, and the jumbo blue crab cake...but save room for the bread! The food presentations are stunning, and Paperfish serves an amazing assortment of flavorful breads that you'll be hooked on. I'm so sad to say that there is no happy hour (what's wrong with them?), but bring a full wallet and treat yourself to beautiful ambience and fish! Click on the title link people. The Kettle is a cool little coffee shop just down the street from the Manhattan Beach pier open breakfast, lunch and dinner. They serve a wide variety of food 24 hours a day, everything from Bacon & Eggs to Blackened Chicken Penne. The Kettle boasts an extensive beer and wine list, as well. Try to sit on the large outdoor closed patio, where you can hear the sounds of the nearby karoke bar.

35 Cent Martinis!!

I've been trying to make it to The Edison for the 35 cent martinis for the longest. This funky, upscale bar/lounge, formerly a private power plant with some of the original machinery being used as decor, serves 1910's martinis at 1910's prices each and every Thursday between 5pm and 7pm. The martinis are created by one of their mixologists and are different each week. 35 cents for a martini is unheard of, and with the economy the way it is, I'm all about being frugal. I can get tipsy before I've accrued a one-dollar tab! Maybe I'll leave work a little bit early this Thursday and head on down there...Can, are you with me? My treat. ;)

Brunch Buffet @ Shanghai Red's, sooo good

One of my favorite brunch restaurants, mmmmmmm, Shanghai Red's. In the Marina near El Toritos, valet and cross the entrance bridge and eyeball those stunning 10 pound (or more I think) Koi fish, (I'm adding them to my wishlist with the jellyfish). Opt for private water front view seats, and get started. Endless crab, shrimp, seafood pasta, fresh omelets, waffles, all the breakfast meats, eggs and potatoes, hash browns, endless fruit and breads...anything you can think of, they have it- including dessert.
